STUDIO SLØYD is a design studio based in Oslo, Norway. Their work stretches from conceptual one-off pieces to contemporary designs. Inspired by the educational sløyd traditions of Scandinavia, where the focus is on the growth and development of craftmanship, the three Norwegians design furniture that aims to be a new abruption to the minimalism Scandinavia is know for. Materials matter and the studio put much effort into choosing the right material that will be the most sustainable option, either if it focuses on cutting down on transportation or developing new composite materials. Additional to the commercial furniture the studio also does material experiments to find sustainable options and challenge the unsustainable options. Their choice of favorite materials to work with is wood and especially pine as it is an abundant and short traveled material that has very little wastage when processed.
The studio was founded in the early parts of 2019 and has made a quick name for themselves within the Scandinavian design community. It has been recognized as a finalist at Bolia’s design of the year award with the chair Blimp as well as nominated for designer of the year 2019 by the Norwegian Designers Saturday. The studio will release their first full collection in 2020, first to be seen at the Stockholm Furniture Fair.
